Maintenance of machinery and plant to ensure continued electrical operation and performance within a Lean Manufacturing environment. Ensure that all maintenance operations are conducted within the quality, health, and safety requirements of Nando’s Feitoria.

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric (Standard 10) or recognized equivalent qualification with Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • Relevant Technical Qualification. (Mechanical)
  • Relevant Trade certification (Mechanical/Millwright)
  • QCTO Trade Certificate (Fitter/Millwright)

Ideal requirements:

  • Fitter Trade Certificate
  • Redseal Certificate

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of working experience, a strong aptitude for electrical fault finding and troubleshooting, experience in hydraulics and pneumatics, and ability to liaise effectively with suppliers for spare specifications and requirements
  • years’ good working knowledge and experience in food manufacturing, as well as a good understanding of PLCs and general programming (Siemens S5/S7 preferably), would be an added advantage.
  • FMCG/Manufacturing experience is essential

Duties and Responsibilities

Safety and Quality:

  • Following all of Nando’s Feitoria safety rules and policies
  • Wearing safety equipment and PPE
  • Reporting all dangerous or unsafe behavior to the supervisor or the manager
  • Never engage in any unsafe act
  • Ensure full compliance with Company Quality, Food Safety, Health & Safety, and Environmental requirements
  • Responsible for ensuring all factory hygiene activities are conducted in full compliance with Company Quality, Food Safety, Health & Safety, and environmental requirements
  • Ensure all electrical plant and equipment are in safe condition before commencing any work on them
  • Carry out electrical inspections and safety checks as per OHS Act
  • Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures, carry out duties following Good Manufacturing Practices, and 5S practices, and assume responsibility for hygiene and housekeeping in a specified work area
  • Inspect the equipment, examine broken components mechanically/electrically, and carry out the necessary fault-finding and circuit testing
  • Responsible for administration and safety by ensuring all relevant documentation associated with the job is accurately and promptly completed

Plant Maintenance & Operational Excellence:

  • Maintenance of machinery and plant as a whole and specific designated individual responsible areas to ensure continued mechanical operation
  • To report to the Maintenance Manager any problems or faults and breakdowns occurring within the plant
  • To plan and discuss preventative maintenance with the Maintenance Manager
  • To comply with the standby schedule, safety requirements as prescribed by Nando’s Feitoria, and any provisions of the OHS Act that are indicated as your responsibilities by the Maintenance Manager
  • Has the authority to stop any machine or practice that is unsafe, or not producing quality products – in consultation with either the maintenance manager or engineering manager
  • To develop and improve all aspects of the production lines technically
  • To correctly complete work orders issued or generated by the individual, and to return them to the Maintenance Manager. (E.g. the fabrication of machinery/safety guards according to drawings, refurbishing machinery and moving parts, attending to breakdowns
  • To furnish the Maintenance assistant by writing in the order book and signing it with all relevant information to allow them to accurately order any spares or parts that may be required, and to follow up on progress
  • Complete all downtime reports as well as planned maintenance schedules for the allocated lines. This includes the planned shutdown maintenance
  • To help cultivate harmonious relations between the maintenance department and other departments
  • To assist with production-related tasks as and when required
  • Strip, repair, assemble and maintain electrical/mechanical components with minimum downtime

Operational Planning and Projects:

  • Perform routine and breakdown maintenance on various mechanical equipment, plants, or buildings to minimize downtime
  • Ensure that relevant defects and work requests are attended to promptly to minimize downtime
  • Use electrical testing equipment and mechanical measuring equipment for the performance of daily tasks
  • Provide an electrical/mechanical service for the maintenance and operation of the production plant
  • Assist the Electrician in creating sketches and electrical drawings if necessary (wiring panel)
  • Decide on the most appropriate method sequence to carry out mechanical repairs as per the original equipment manufacturer’s requirements
  • Maintain high- and low-tension gear as prescribed in the maintenance schedules
  • Determine which spares and equipment are necessary for all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, considering lead times and delivery times to minimize outage duration
  • Provide input into the routine maintenance plans
  • Communicate routine maintenance plans and perform the required maintenance accordingly
  • Clean the working site and remove and load materials and tools
