We are currently seeking an experienced and dependable Driver with a valid Code 10 license and Public Driving Permit (PDP) to join our team based in Germiston, Meadowdale. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the safe and timely transportation of goods to their assigned destinations while adhering to all traffic laws and company guidelines.
As a key member of our logistics team, you will be tasked with ensuring that all deliveries are completed safely and punctually, with a commitment to the highest standards of customer service. This role requires a professional who demonstrates excellent driving abilities, a strong sense of responsibility, and the ability to handle various aspects of the job, including loading and unloading cargo and interacting with customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safe Vehicle Operation:
- Safely operate a Code 10 vehicle, which has a gross vehicle weight of up to 3,500 kg, ensuring compliance with all local traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Drive with professionalism and caution at all times, taking into account road conditions, weather, and other factors that may affect the safety of the vehicle, its cargo, and the public.
- Transport Goods:
- Ensure the safe and timely transportation of goods from one location to another, in accordance with designated schedules and routes.
- Responsible for ensuring that goods are securely transported, preventing damage or loss during transit.
- Ensure deliveries are completed within set timelines and report any delays or issues to the appropriate supervisor or dispatcher.
- Loading and Unloading Cargo:
- Safely load and unload cargo from the vehicle, following company procedures and best practices for securing goods.
- Ensure that all goods are loaded properly and safely, using equipment or assistance where necessary to prevent damage or injury.
- Follow company guidelines for handling different types of cargo, ensuring that items are safely secured and transported in accordance with regulations.
- Vehicle Inspections and Maintenance:
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure that it is in optimal working condition. This includes checking tire pressure, fluid levels, brakes, and lights.
- Report any maintenance issues or damage to the vehicle immediately to the appropriate supervisor, ensuring that it is repaired promptly to avoid safety hazards.
- Ensure that the vehicle remains clean and organized, both inside and out, maintaining a professional appearance at all times.
- Adherence to Delivery Schedules:
- Follow delivery schedules and designated routes as assigned by your supervisor or dispatcher.
- Ensure accurate and timely delivery of goods to customers, maintaining professionalism in every interaction.
- Be adaptable and able to handle changes in routes, schedules, or delivery locations as required by business needs.
- Customer Service:
- Provide exceptional customer service at all times, ensuring that clients receive their goods in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.
- Address any customer inquiries or concerns in a polite and helpful manner, ensuring that customer satisfaction is always a priority.
- Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of all deliveries, including details such as delivery dates, times, distances traveled, and fuel consumption.
- Keep a detailed log of any incidents, accidents, or maintenance issues that arise during your shifts.
- Submit daily or weekly reports to the supervisor, including mileage, deliveries, fuel usage, and any discrepancies or issues encountered during the day.
- Accident and Incident Reporting:
- In the event of an accident or vehicle incident, immediately report the matter to your supervisor or dispatcher.
- Provide full documentation of the incident and cooperate with any investigations or insurance claims as necessary.
- Follow company procedures for accident response and ensure that all necessary steps are taken to resolve the situation.
- Adherence to Company Policies:
- Always adhere to company policies and procedures related to driving, safety, and customer service.
- Maintain a professional and positive attitude toward your work, team members, and customers at all times.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Valid Code 10 driver’s license with a Public Driving Permit (PDP) is a must. This includes a valid PDP to legally transport passengers or goods for commercial purposes.
- Proven experience as a driver in a similar role, with a focus on commercial transport or logistics operations.
- Clean driving record with no major violations, accidents, or infractions. Safe driving habits are critical.
- Strong knowledge of local traffic laws, regulations, and road safety practices.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 25 kg) as part of the loading and unloading process.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with customers, team members, and supervisors.
- A strong sense of responsibility and reliability is essential to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently and on time.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, managing your time and deliveries effectively.
- A flexible approach to working hours, as you may be required to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays depending on the demands of the business.
- Availability for occasional travel outside Gauteng to support business needs, ensuring timely delivery to remote locations if required.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, though experience in a related field may be considered as a substitute.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects, including lifting up to 25 kilograms of cargo or goods, when required.
- Ability to remain seated for extended periods while driving, with regular breaks to maintain focus and alertness.
- Good vision and hearing are necessary to ensure safe driving, including the ability to detect hazards, recognize road signs, and maintain clear communication with others on the road.
- General good health and stamina to perform the physically demanding aspects of the job, including loading, unloading, and long hours of driving.
Additional Information:
- Location: This position is based in Germiston, Meadowdale, and the driver will be expected to operate in and around the Gauteng area, with occasional travel to other locations within and outside the province.
